I’m going to walk until the road runs out.
From the very edge of the walkable road at the Hithadhoo end to the same walkable edge at Gan Airport. No race. No fundraising campaign. No inspirational music following me. Just a long road, a backpack, a phone, a watch—and the belief that life improves when you occasionally decide to do something cool.
Walk the planThe philosophy
“Cool shit” is not a category. It is a decision.
Most days arrive already organised. Wake up. Work. Scroll. Eat. Sleep. Repeat until the calendar changes its number and pretends something happened.
Doing cool shit is my small refusal. It means noticing an idea that makes me curious, slightly nervous or amused—and doing it before I can bury it under sensible reasons.
It does not have to be expensive, extreme or impressive to anyone else. It only has to interrupt the ordinary and leave behind a story, a lesson, a photograph, a number or a better version of me.
Do not wait to become a more interesting person. Go and collect evidence.
What I’m carrying
Deliberately uncomplicated.
I want the walk to be the main event, not the equipment.
Nothing Phone (2)
For photographs, notes, location and whatever catches my eye along the road.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 7
For the actual distance, steps, time, pace, heart rate and the numbers my memory would otherwise exaggerate.
A backpack
Light enough to carry for hours. Large enough for water and the things I genuinely need.
Water bottles
Because this is Addu, not a motivational montage. Hydration is part of the plan.
The route
One connected road. Five changing chapters.
Published figures put central Hithadhoo to Gan Airport at about 13.4 km, while the full Addu Link Road is commonly described as 16 km. I am starting and finishing at the actual walkable edges, so the honest distance will come from the watch.
The road has a beginning because I choose one.
I want a clean start: not my house, not a convenient café, but the furthest edge from which the walkable road begins.
The starting edge—add after the walk.
Familiar places become different when escape is slow.
A road seen through a car window is background. At walking speed it becomes weather, sound, people, small businesses, shade and detail.
The first thing I notice only because I am walking.
The middle is where an idea becomes real.
The beginning has excitement. The ending has relief. The long middle has only the decision to continue—and that is usually where the useful part is.
The road stretching farther than it looked in my head.
A city can be one road and several worlds.
Hithadhoo, Maradhoo, Maradhoo-Feydhoo and Feydhoo are joined, but walking should reveal the changes that driving smooths over.
A human moment somewhere between the place names.
Stop where walking legally and practically stops.
The finish is not an invented line on a map. It is the furthest walkable road edge at Gan Airport. That is where the experiment ends and the evidence begins.
The final edge—and whatever my face looks like by then.
The evidence board
These blanks will be filled by the road.
Rules for Cool Shit #001
Finish honestly. Return safely.
- Measure the real route. No rounding the distance upward because it sounds better.
- Take photographs of what earns attention. Not fifty copies of the same road.
- Drink before thirst becomes the main character.Water is equipment, not decoration.
- Stay visible and alert around traffic. No photograph or statistic is worth stepping into danger.
- Stop if something is genuinely wrong.Doing cool shit is not the same as doing stupid shit.
Route notes
The exact edge-to-edge distance is intentionally not presented as known before the walk. Published references describe approximately 13.4 km from Hithadhoo to Gan Airport and a 16 km Addu Link Road joining Hithadhoo, Maradhoo, Maradhoo-Feydhoo, Feydhoo and Gan.
